| As the sole owner of my construction company,
I take great pride in my ability to work closely with the new homeowner.
Unlike some in the construction business, I do not feel it inappropriate
for the client to offer suggestions. For most people, the construction
of a new home is the end result of years of planning, dreaming, and
saving. It is only proper that the new homeowner have a tremendous
amount of input in the design, construction, and finishing of their
new home. I seek to establish a relationship of trust and cooperation
with the homeowner.
Ralph Muhs Construction (the housecarpenter) is a small construction
company. One of the most important characteristics of my business
is the fact that I am personally on the job every single day, from
beginning to end. I am not a "pickup truck" contractor
who spends his days in an office, in a truck, or on the cell phone
constantly seeking the cheapest subcontractors to do all the work.
There will not be a paid construction manager. Unproven or inexperienced
subcontractors will not be used, even if the cost is a bit higher.
Experience has shown that to get it done right, it must be done
by myself or by a few trusted and experienced employees. And when
an occasional mistake is made, I am not too lazy or proud to do
it over. For this attitude to prevail, I must be on the site.
I believe the new homeowner will appreciate this commitment. It
is not my goal to be the largest building contractor. I want to
build one or two homes per year, for people who want quality and
attention to detail. For me, pride in my workmanship is more important
than money. Of course I want to be profitable, but I also want to
end the building project on good terms with my client.
